Product Overview

TEAR-AID® makes two different repair patch formulas, so getting the right one matters — this listing carries all three options as variants above.

Type B – Vinyl (Standard): our original vinyl patch kit repairs hot tub cover vinyl, inflatable spas, pool liners, vinyl pool toys, spa cover lifters, tarps, boat seats, and RV vinyl. Bonds instantly and cures to a permanent, flexible, waterproof seal.

Type B – Underwater: the same Type B vinyl-bonding patch material, packaged as TEAR-AID's dedicated underwater kit — one larger patch plus an application squeegee — built for emergency repairs you can't take out of the water, like a leaking pool liner or a deflating inflatable spa.

Type A – Fabric: a different adhesive formulation made for canvas, nylon, polyester, and other woven fabrics, such as the underside of some spa covers, tents, and outdoor gear. Type A and Type B are not interchangeable — using the wrong type on the wrong material won't bond properly.

Not sure which one you need? Check the FAQ below, or match your torn material and repair situation to the variant descriptions above before ordering.

  • Repairing a torn vinyl cover or fabric surface is easier than you think. These steps apply to both Type A (fabric) and Type B (vinyl) patches:

    Step 1: Clean the Surface
Wipe the damaged area with rubbing alcohol or acetone to remove dirt, oils, and spa chemicals. Let dry completely, unless you're using the Type B Underwater kit for an emergency underwater repair.

Step 2: Cut Patch to Size
Cut the patch to size, allowing at least 1 inch of overlap around the tear or hole. For larger repairs, use multiple overlapping patches.

    Step 3: Round the Corners
Round the corners with scissors to prevent edge peeling and help the patch last longer.

    Step 4: Apply the Patch
Peel off the backing paper and apply firmly to the damaged area. Smooth from center outward to remove air bubbles (the Underwater kit's squeegee makes this easier below the surface). Apply firm pressure for 30 seconds.

    Step 5: Allow to Cure
For best results, wait 24 hours before exposing the repair to water or chemicals. The patch bonds on contact but reaches full strength after 24 hours.

Pro Tip: For tears longer than 2 inches, apply patches to both sides of the material for maximum strength.

  • Brand: TEAR-AID®

Product Type: Adhesive repair patch kit, available in 3 variants — Type B Vinyl (Standard), Type B Underwater, and Type A Fabric

    Type B – Vinyl (Standard & Underwater):

    • Material: Clear, abrasion-resistant elastomeric polyurethane film with a high-tack, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive engineered for vinyl and PVC
    • Surfaces: Vinyl spa covers, pool liners, inflatable spas, PVC equipment covers — not for canvas, nylon, polyester, or other woven fabrics
    • Waterproof and can be applied underwater; the Underwater kit adds an application squeegee and is packaged for emergency in-water repairs
    • Temperature and UV resistant; resists pool and spa sanitizers, saltwater, and mild cleaning agents

    Type A – Fabric:

    • Material: Clear adhesive patch formulated for canvas, nylon, polyester, and other woven fabrics
    • Surfaces: Fabric spa cover undersides, tents, awnings, and other outdoor fabric gear — not for vinyl or PVC
    • Same general cure time and waterproof, UV-resistant properties as Type B, in a fabric-specific adhesive

Bond Development: Immediate tack on application; full bond strength develops within 24 hours

Kit Contents: Adhesive patch(es) and alcohol prep pad(s); the Underwater kit substitutes an application squeegee for two of the small patches included in the standard kit

  • Surface Preparation: Clean the vinyl or fabric surface thoroughly — remove oils, dirt, moisture, and loose debris before applying

Underwater Application: The Type B Underwater kit may be applied below the surface; press firmly from center outward with the included squeegee to expel trapped water and air

Pressure Activation: Apply consistent, firm pressure across the entire patch to ensure full adhesive contact

Edge Preparation: Trim patches with rounded corners to reduce lifting risk

Curing Period: Avoid excessive stress, stretching, or flexing for 24 hours after application

Inspection Interval: Periodically check patch edges in high-flex or high-pressure areas

Cleaning Post-Application: Use mild soap and water; avoid abrasive scrubbing on patch edges

Storage: Store unused patches flat in original packaging in a cool, dry place

Shelf Life: Approximately 2–3 years when stored properly

  • Both patch types bond to spa covers, pool equipment, and outdoor gear regardless of brand — Bullfrog, Jacuzzi, Sundance, Hot Spring, Caldera, Master Spas, Marquis, and others. What matters is the material you're repairing, not the brand:

    • Vinyl or vinyl-coated surfaces (most spa cover tops, inflatable spas, pool liners, vinyl equipment) — use Type B Vinyl (Standard), or Type B Underwater if the repair has to happen in the water
    • Canvas, nylon, polyester, or other woven fabric surfaces (some spa cover undersides, tents, outdoor gear) — use Type A Fabric

Compatibility Disclaimer: Type A and Type B are not interchangeable — applying the wrong type to a material won't create a lasting bond. If you're not sure which surface you're repairing, check with the spa or equipment manufacturer, or contact us before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most spa cover tops are vinyl, so Type B (Standard or Underwater) is usually right. Some cover undersides use a fabric liner, which needs Type A instead. Check which material is torn before ordering, or contact us if you're not sure.
  • Type A is formulated for canvas, nylon, polyester, and other woven fabrics. Type B is formulated for vinyl and vinyl-coated surfaces. They are not interchangeable — using the wrong type on the wrong material will result in a poor bond or repair failure.
  • Yes — inflatable spas are vinyl, so Type B is the right choice. The flexible patch moves with the material as it inflates and deflates and resists spa chemicals. Works on Intex, Coleman, and Bestway inflatable spas.
  • It's the same Type B vinyl-bonding patch material, packaged as TEAR-AID's dedicated emergency kit — it includes an application squeegee for pressing the patch on below the surface. Use it when you can't drain or dry the area first, like a leaking pool liner. The Standard Type B kit is best when you can clean and dry the surface.
  • When properly applied, TEAR-AID patches create a long-lasting repair — often outlasting the vinyl or fabric itself. The patch is UV- and chemical-resistant and won't crack or peel. Many customers report repairs lasting 5+ years with no degradation.
  • Yes — TEAR-AID bonds to vinyl and fabric regardless of brand, including Bullfrog, Jacuzzi, Sundance, Hot Spring, Caldera, Master Spas, and Marquis. Match the patch type to your cover's material, not its brand.
