TEAR-AID® Fabric Repair Kit – Type A (Clear Adhesive Patches)

Q: What materials is Type A compatible with?

A: It works on canvas, nylon, rubber, most plastics, Sunbrella®, neoprene, fiberglass, acrylics, leather (non-oiled) and many other fabrics.

Q: Should I use this on vinyl or vinyl-coated items?

A: No — for vinyl or vinyl-coated items you should use TEAR-AID® Type B, which has adhesive adapted for vinyl oils.

Q: Is the patch clear? Will it show on colored fabric?

A: Yes — this kit uses clear, see-through patches that blend well with most fabrics and colors. The BackCountry+1Q: How long does the repair last?

A: The patches are designed to hold air and water under pressure, resist punctures and tears, and remain durable under UV, saltwater and extreme temperatures.

Q: Can I apply the patch underwater?

A: There are instructions for special underwater applications on certain materials, but results vary—always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific use case.

Clean and dry the surface thoroughly; use the included alcohol prep pads to remove oils or contaminants.

Cut the clear patch to size, rounding corners and extending about 1 inch beyond the edges of the tear.

Peel back ½″ of the liner and position the patch so the exposed edge anchors into the repair area.

Slowly remove the liner while pressing the patch firmly into place, applying pressure with a squeegee or your fingers from the centre outward to remove air bubbles.

Allow the patch to cure: initial adhesion occurs immediately, full adhesion within 24 hours under typical conditions.

For best results, avoid stretching or putting pressure on the patch during the first curing period.

After curing, use as normal and inspect periodically for any edge lifting or damage.
