The FROG® Serene™ Bromine Replacement Cartridge (King Technology part 01-14-3824) is the prefilled, adjustable bromine cartridge for the FROG Serene hot tub sanitizing system. It snaps into the FROG Serene floating holder alongside the FROG Serene mineral cartridge, and dealers also list it for FROG Serene in-line systems. The cartridge holds 150 grams of slow-dissolving bromine (1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin), so there are no tablets or granules to measure or handle. FROG says Serene is designed for hot tubs from 150 to 600 gallons.
Working together with the mineral cartridge, FROG Serene lets you keep bromine at a lower level than a bromine-only routine. FROG says the minerals reduce bromine use by up to 50% compared with the minimum ANSI-recommended 2.0 ppm, and its manual sets the ideal FROG bromine range at 1.0 to 2.0 ppm. You set the cartridge's dial to match your spa size, from 0 for about 200 gallons up to 6 for 600 gallons. Then test daily for the first week with FROG test strips, adjusting one setting per day until the reading stays in range.
FROG says a bromine cartridge typically lasts 2 to 4 weeks, depending on spa size, water temperature and how often the tub is used. Replace it when it's empty. The mineral cartridge lasts about 4 months or until you drain and refill. Keep pH between 7.2 and 7.8 and total alkalinity between 80 and 120 ppm. Shock weekly, or as needed, with a non-chlorine shock such as FROG Maintain™. This listing is one bromine cartridge.
