• How often should I use Hot Tub Things® Spa Defoamer?
  Use spa defoamer only when foam appears in your hot tub. It's a treatment product, not a regular maintenance chemical. If you find yourself using it more than once a week, investigate underlying causes such as low calcium hardness (below 150 ppm), contaminated water, dirty filters, or excessive body oils. Addressing root causes prevents recurring foam issues.
• Is spa defoamer safe with all sanitizers?
  Yes! Hot Tub Things® Spa Defoamer (16 oz) is compatible with all sanitizer systems including chlorine, bromine, saltwater generators, mineral systems (like Nature2 or Frog), and ozone systems. It won't interfere with sanitizer effectiveness or cause chemical reactions.
• Will defoamer affect my water chemistry?
  No. Spa defoamer works mechanically by breaking surface tension to eliminate bubbles. It doesn't chemically alter pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, or sanitizer levels. Continue testing and balancing your water chemistry as normal after using defoamer.
• What causes foam in my hot tub?
  Hot tub foam is caused by contaminants that alter water's surface tension: body oils and lotions, cosmetics and hair products, laundry detergent residue on swimsuits, low calcium hardness (soft water below 150 ppm), high total dissolved solids (TDS), organic debris, and poor filtration. Regular maintenance and proper water balance prevent most foam issues.
• How much spa defoamer should I use in a 16 oz bottle?
  For light foam, use just 1-2 drops applied directly to foamy areas. For moderate foam, use 1/2 teaspoon per 500 gallons. For heavy foam, use up to 1 teaspoon per 500 gallons. Always start with the smallest amount – the 16 oz concentrated formula is powerful, and you can always add more if needed.
• How long does a 16 oz bottle of spa defoamer last?
  A 16 oz bottle typically lasts 6-12 months with normal use (occasional foam treatment). Since you only use 1-2 drops per treatment, the concentrated formula provides excellent value. Heavy users or those with persistent foam issues may use it faster, but it remains highly economical compared to frequent water changes.
• Can I prevent foam without using defoamer?
  Yes! Prevent foam by maintaining calcium hardness between 150-250 ppm, showering before spa use to remove oils and lotions, rinsing swimsuits in water only (no detergent), cleaning or replacing filters every 2-4 weeks, shocking weekly to oxidize contaminants, and draining/refilling every 3-4 months. Defoamer provides instant relief when prevention isn't enough.
