Shock your tub to get the most from your sanitizer

SpaGuard Spa Shock Oxidizer is an essential companion for bromine hot tubs. Shock oxidizes away the organic residue, clearing your water and “recharging” your free bromine reserve. Without regular shocking, bromine loses its effectiveness. As a result, your spa water can become cloudy and unhealthy. Since this shock is chlorine-free, it is fully compatible with bromine sanitizers.

Shocking your tub is helpful for chlorine-based tubs, too. The chlorine smell typical of swimming pools is actually the smell of chloramines, chlorine molecules which are “tied up” with the germs and microbes they have destroyed. Shock converts these irritating chloramines back to free chlorine. Just as with bromine tubs, shock helps the organic compounds in chlorine tubs evaporate away.

When to use Spa Shock

Fill up usage: When you refill fill your hot tub with fresh water, add two ounces of SpaGuard Shock Oxidizer per 300 gallons. Add the shock after you have added either bromine-based or chlorine-based sanitizer. (Bromine-based sanitizers require three products at first fill: bromine, sodium bromide, and shock.)

Shock usage: Add one ounce of SpaGuard Spa shock per 300 gallons, at least once per week. Better yet, add one ounce to your hot tub after every extended bathing session. (If two people soak in your hot tub for 30 minutes, that counts as an extended bathing session.)

Shock alone is not a sanitizer. Shock alone will not kill germs. It is a serious chemical that should be stored away from young children and domestic animals.
